Our Objectives
Tsai Capital has three investment objectives: to preserve capital, to capture above average rates of return and to control risk (volatility and potential for permanent capital loss). We firmly believe these goals are complementary, not contradictory.

To accomplish these objectives we seek to invest in companies with solid fundamentals at a price we believe represents a discount to fair market value. When executed correctly, we believe this strategy will minimize risk of capital loss and maximize return.

Identifying Investments
We believe that through original, in-depth research that digs deep into a company’s balance sheet and business operations an investor can identify undervalued growth stock investment opportunity that others have missed, and therefore mispriced.

We use a bottom-up approach to identify potential investments.

Our analysis includes a thorough review of a company’s fundamentals: composition of assets and liabilities, debt in relation to equity, return on equity, return on assets, profit margin, cash flow, market share, and the quality and experience of the management team.

We prefer to invest in companies that, over a number of years, produce consistent results.

Construction of Stock Holdings
We believe in placing our clients’ assets in our best ideas. We therefore manage a focused portfolio of approximately 20 to 25 growth stocks that offer the greatest potential for capital appreciation, with consideration for risk (e.g., volatility and potential for permanent capital loss).

Investments tend to be in large, domestic and international growth companies.

Key Professionals

Christopher Tsai, founder of the company, has been a director and the President and Chief Investment Officer of the company since November 1997. Prior to joining the company, Mr. Tsai was an analyst in the equity research department at Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc., a leading global investment banking, securities trading and brokerage firm. Before that, Mr. Tsai managed money mostly for high net worth individuals at Tsai Asset Management, Inc., a private investment management firm that he founded. Earlier, he was an apprentice at Tsai Management, Inc. (an investment firm founded by Gerald Tsai, Jr.), Gabelli Asset Management, and John A. Levin & Co., Inc. Mr. Tsai has been quoted in numerous business publications and has served as an expert consultant on equity securities to a prominent international law firm.

Aside from his professional career, Mr. Tsai has been a benefactor of a number of civic and charitable organizations including China Institute, Henry Street Settlement, Point Foundation and Asia Society, where he served as a member of the Asia Circle Advisory Committee.

Mr. Tsai received his B.A. degree in philosophy and international politics from Middlebury College, where he served as a Young Alumni Advisor.
